Expectations

For the month of June, I am flipping through Clarity and Connection, by Yung Pueblo daily and randomly stopping at a page and reading. I am using the entry to delve into my thoughts and feelings, find what resonates, and see what answers it might hold for me. It is an exercise in building my Intuition, making space for creativity, and journeying inward so that I might know myself and others better. Today’s reading was on page 81.

"we are constantly creating narratives of how we want things to be and how we want others around us to act. these narratives invariably lead to disappointment because the stories we crave are often dashed and broken by unrealistic expectations, circumstances beyond our control, and randomness of the external world."

Control,
My friend,
I trust you
To keep me safe
And on a predictable path.
I will behave a certain way
And expect others to do their part
So that I do not experience more pain.
I will follow the course I charted, without fail,
And in disregard of my feelings, wants, needs and desires.

Today, let me examine my inner world and its expectations,
Let me remember that as humans, we are imperfect,
And in need of softness, perspective, and space.
Knowing that Life arrives on Life's terms,
Help me focus on personal growth,
Being open to new opportunities,
Patient with the process,
Embracing my freedom,
Relinquishing control,
Surrendering.
