Anger!

It rumbles in from the distance,
Moving slowly at first, building.
Dark clouds gather, gaining strength in their discontent.
Other malcontents join in the cacophony,
Bringing noise and chaos.
As they jostle for position, violence erupts,
Until there is a palpable charge in the air.
"Something is going to happen here!"
The People note. The Mountains could see it coming.
But the Storm could not see. All it knew was its force, its need.
And it let loose suddenly! Winds and rain blanketed the land,
The People scattered as hail formed and fell, pelting them as they ran.
For many moments it was dark, eerie, scary.
The fury was awesome in its display.
Until it wasn't anymore.
It had worn itself out,
Given all it could,
Depleted itself.
It was then that the Mountains quietly explained
To the People, small and frightened,
That the Storm wasn't angry,
But rather it felt pent up,
Out of control, antsy.
It had energy it couldn't contain,
And it had exploded.
The Land understood.
It had served as witness before.
It did not fear.
It did not judge.
It held space.
For it knew the Storm needed this expulsion,
This release.
The Anger was Frustration, Confusion, Boredom.
And the Land benefited, as did the plants and animals.
Not all that is powerful is dangerous.
Not all that is powerful is negative.
Sometimes it just needs to be seen,
To be heard,
To be accepted
And appreciated.

  1. Wow again! You are writing such powerful words about being a woman. This one struck me as being so very important. We are given the message that our anger isn’t to be trusted or expressed, but we can’t hold it in forever. There’s a breaking point, and when we are allowed to expel that energy, when it’s witnessed with love and compassion, it’s a beautiful thing. A healthy thing.

    1. Anger comes with information for us. It’s not impolite, shameful or out of control. As women, we are often taught to suppress our anger, aren’t we?

      1. We certainly are. It’s taken me a long time to get the point where I understand that it’s important and I’m allowed to be angry.
