Catch the Wave

Catch the wave of joy,
As it surges toward me,
Eyes bright, mouth open, head thrown back,
Laughter emitting an uninhibited, unself-conscious yowl!

Catch the wave of happiness,
As it envelops me,
Arms strong and secure,
Wrapping me in contentedness.

Catch the wave of melancholy,
As it circles my shoulders like a blanket,
Sort of comfortable, sort of heavy,
Whispering of days gone by.

Catch the wave of grief,
As it sneaks up on me,
Crafty in its deception of just another day,
When really it is the anniversary of my loss.

Catch the wave of compassion,
As it smooths my frown lines,
And eases my brow,
Reminding me of the tribulations of others.

Catch the wave of understanding,
As it lights me from within,
Filling me with ideas I'd never considered,
Expanding my world.

Catch the wave of love,
Shining deep within me,
Showering me with self trust, self forgiveness,
Spreading peace throughout my life.
