Automaticity

Last week my writing group
brainstormed words
or phrases
we say with automaticity,
things that spring
from our mouths
automatically,
with nary a thought.

They are...
Hey, how's it going?
How are you?
Fine.
Good.
No problem.
Of course!
Thank you SO much!
Busy.
Sure!
I appreciate that!
Honey, Baby, Love
I'm sorry.
No worries!
No offense, but...
No offense taken.
It's fine.
That's okay!
Cool!
That's AMAZING!
Wow!
That's so funny!
It is what it is.
What are you gonna do?

These words have meaning,
deep meaning,
but instead tumble out,
mindlessly,
with little thought,
and little care for follow up.

Can you add to our list?

  1. I use Crazy Pants, like what are you doing crazy pants?

  2. I love you. I think those 3 words tumble out of mouths of people who haven’t even pondered what the words mean.

    1. I totally agree. And sometimes mixed in with a goodbye too casually. It should be the headline!
