Without Music Prompt

What would your life be like without music?

Who found who? Did I find music or did it find me? I can’t remember a time in my life when there wasn’t a soundtrack. From my mother chanting and singing nursery rhymes to my older siblings blasting their albums to music class in nursery school and beyond, to beginning my own album collection, to learning the piano and then clarinet and short-lived guitar, music has been there through it all.

I seek it and it seeks me. I choose playlists to match my mood and activity, whether it’s upbeat for cleaning or working out or soulful for love or quiet or nostalgia. I listen to artists whose word speak to me.

Music finds me, as well. A song will come on and is able to articulate the thoughts in my head and gently hold the feelings in my heart.

Music tugs at me until I release the feelings that need to be expressed. Sometimes it offers a way through and sometimes it just sits in the suck with me.

A world without music would be more than silent, it would be empty. There would be a hole deep within me that couldn’t be filled in any other way.
