Privacy and Secrecy

Privacy,
honoring the parts
that are all yours,
staying independent,
retaining autonomy,
making choices about
when, what, and how much
you share,
keeping some space.
Privacy-
normal, healthy, safe,
boundaried,
and yet still trustworthy.

Secrecy,
protecting the Self
to avoid consequences, vulnerability,
or taking responsibility,
controlling how others perceive you,
through lying, manipulation,
deception, hiding.
Secrecy-
withholding truths that affect relationships,
affect others,
eroding, disconnecting, building barriers,
worthy of distrust.

    1. Thank you! I read an article by Sara Kubric and it really helped me see the break between the two. I often think about privacy vs vulnerability, but this was a new direction.

    1. It’s amazing that the more we share our “shadow selves,” the more we find the universality of our feelings.
