Snow Squall

Today we had a snow squall in my little part of the world. I got warnings on my phone that it was coming, but I was deep into a reading lesson with my little 3rd grade guy who works so hard and is so sweet. When we wrapped, I looked out the window and saw the snow coming down sideways. I brought him to the window and his face registered sheer delight. From Mexico, he had never seen such a sight! It was such a wonderful moment to share with him.

Tonight during writing class, I introduced the Fibonacci poem structure to my group. The Fib is (if you didn't already guess!) a series of lines featuring a certain number of syllables in this pattern: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and so on. Most Fib poems end at 6 lines and 8 syllables.

I wrote about today's squall a few times...

Out
the
window,
snow swirling
in gusts of sideways
wind~our first snow squall of the year!

Bright
flakes
swirling
magically-
winter vortex-
very first snow squall of the year!

His
face
against
our window
looking out at the
swirling flakes of his first snow squall!

Then, because it was so frigidly cold and windy today, and because I sacrificed warmth for fashion and suffered through both morning and afternoon bus duty, and because it took me until 9:30 tonight when I put on sweats, socks and sneakers to run for my feet to actually warm up, I wrote this...

So
cold,
bitter,
and no socks!
Darn these adorable
flats that made bus duty so frightful!
