Last Year’s Language

For last year's words belong to last year's language. And next year's words await another voice. T.S. Eliot

I had a language last year,
with words like
love, life, trust, work,
and it brought me joy, peace, fulfillment,
until it didn't,
because the ground shifted,
and those things were tarnished,
tainted, taken from me,
like it or not.

This year,
a new voice emerges,
bubbling up from deep within,
it speaks of space-
for friends and family,
tennis and travel,
for experiences and exploration,
intuition and instinct,
for meaning and satisfaction,
new ideas and perspectives,
for rebellion and defiance,
change and expansion,
for peace and rest,
sustainability and consciousness.

May this year's language
help me articulate
all that last year's no longer can,
for those words were from
a different time,
a difference place,
a different person.

This year's language
reclaims my Original Self,
reinvigorating and refreshing,
bristling, then bursting into bloom,
Propelling me forward,
onward.

This year's language
is called making room.

I do too. There’s something magical about that idea.
