The Journey Inward

Perhaps this trip will be my last,
to the city of Miami.
My daughter's moving on from there,
two years gone by in a flash.
I hadn't thought I'd like it much,
the beach is not my scene.
I thought it'd have a different vibe,
but there's so much natural green.


My flight was smooth and super quick,
it was so nice not to rush.
Getting there early, I chose adventure,
and tried train, metro, shuttle bus.
I took my time and explored around,
and grabbed some essentials, too.
Then ran back out to grab my girl,
and have dinner number two!

Her friend joined us and we had a day,
of brunch and Key Biscayne.
I walked four miles while they napped,
each enjoying the beach our own way.
Back for showers, change of clothes,
and off to Hard Rock Stadium.
To see our favorite tennis players,
from many different rankings.

Doubles, singles, top ten hitters,
Miami Open had them all.
Signature drink, yummy food,
our heads tracking after the ball.
They let us in at 5 pm,
we stayed for 6 hours more.
This is a favorite tournament,
on the World Tennis Tour.

Next morning found us up and out,
to Coconut Grove we walked.
Taking in the sights and sounds,
and all the while we talked.
The three of us had quite a time,
we shopped and ate and read.
We found a path down to the water,
taking that route home instead.

We'd woken to the best of news,
my daughter's boat was early!
We'd be able to see her after all,
this trip no longer topsy turvy!
For it had seemed we'd have a miss,
and I'd just go back again.
But they were determined to get home,
and the day we now could spend.

Base and boat and fellow sailors,
I got to see it all!
Drove them to their various homes,
and heard tales big and small!
Then onto walks and ice cream, too,
on another beautiful day.
Just the sun and warmish breeze,
no humidity in our way!

A trip to remember, one to cherish,
two of my three girls and their friend.
Adventure, travel, family, sport,
it's the best time I could spend.
My last trip to Miami,
this most likely will turn out to be.
But San Diego lies ahead,
and so that's where you'll find me!
