Global Friendships

Two days after my school year let out,
I traveled to Georgetown to attend a conference.
The participants were 150 educators from all over the globe,
and inspiring, talented, insightful speakers,
who set the tone, built the groundwork,
and raised the bar on educational standards.

It was a week full of learning, reflecting,
role playing, notetaking, talking, sharing,
discussing, debating, and camaraderie.
It was breakfasts and lunches at round tables,
with strangers who became friends.
It was morning and afternoon snacks,
mixing and mingling.
It was shared stories, experiences,
travels and lifestyles.

That week ignited my soul,
both for teaching and for friendship.
My new friends live in Africa, France,
Portugal, Prague, China, Ecuador,
India, Greece, and the Phillipines.
We have kept in touch,
and continue to trade stories.

I am grateful for the opportunity
to expand my professional experience,
and my personal one, as well!
