San Diego Day 4

After an early morning walk where I met a fun group of rollerbladers dressed in yellow and dancing to their boombox as they glided down the boardwalk, Saturday brought a return of my youngest to her boat to set sail. From our sector vantage point, we were able to use the gym until her boat pulled out of port and we could watch it go out to sea. It was such an amazing feeling to witness my two strong daughters serve their country. Often when I tell people my children are in the Coast Guard, they assume I have sons.

From there, we found a cute cafe for lunch and the pups soaked up so much attention from our fellow diners. Upon returning home, the kids set off to buy a wetsuit and I caught up with some friends back home by phone and text. I am hopeful that I am achieving a balance of being a welcome visitor without being a burden. I am always happy to explore on my own and I don’t feel like they think they need to entertain me.

The afternoon was a delight of watching the two of them surf. I happily sat in a beach chair and cheered them on, reveling in their new life adventures together and knowing I will hold on to this image when I return home.

Tonight was the fun of their weekly Costco shopping and pick your own Costco dinner (mine was the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo…even here in San Diego!), which we took to Kate Sessions Park overlooking San Diego and Mission Bay. It was fun to glimpse a part of their routine, even if it was off by a day.

After the kids turned in, I binged 4 episodes of The Four Seasons on Netflix. It was so nostalgic to see a cameo of Alan Alda! I’ve made it through spring and summer. The music reminded me of playing Vivaldi on the piano in high school.

Another wonderful day in a beautiful city with beautiful children!
