The Last Night

When scheduling my flight to Johannesburg became challenging for the HR department at my new school, I offered up Washington as a possible place of departure.

And it turned out to be the best place to spend my last night. Not home alone, but rather surrounded by my family. My sister and brother in law hosted us, and my brother flew up from Georgia. My oldest came in from Baltimore and my niece and her family surprised me!

It was a night of playing with the kids and enjoying their antics, catching up with one another, eating a delicious Indian meal and playing board games.

I could not have had a better place to wrap my time here and launch my journey. We took my daughter to the metro and then my brother and sister brought me to the airport. While my sister stayed with the car, my brother helped me in with my six checked bags, one carry-on, and one personal item. He stayed with me until everything was straightened out.

I took my boarding ticket and headed to security and my gate and my new home alone, but not really. I am never alone.
