After four glorious days in New Jersey spending time with some of my closest people, it was time to go see my girls! Taking only the clothes I was wearing (I wore my girls’ clothes the whole trip!), my bags stuffed with gifts for my three daughters and their three partners, I boarded a plane again, this time to cross our country to the West Coast. I read half the book that Suz had given me, watched two episodes of breaking bad, took a cat nap because I had been up so late the night before, and suddenly I was in California! G‘s boat had come into port, so my middle and her husband grabbed her and then they came to the airport for my oldest, who had landed a bit before me. She and I met up and went out to the car. All three of my girls together, something I absolutely treasure!
The next big event was to see the pups! It had been not quite three months, and I was curious if they would remember me. As per usual, I got a huge greeting, but so did everybody who walked through the door. One of the things that warmed my heart so much during this visit was to watch how attached the dogs were to my daughter and her husband and vice versa. It was very hard to leave them, but looking at the foursome, I knew I made the right choice. My hours are very long in South Africa and the plane travel back-and-forth would be very hard on them.
Here are some shots of our first day together, most walking along the beach, which is just one block from their house and of course, a trip to Costco and buying my favorites!

The next day was action packed, as well. More beach walks and a trip up to La Jolla to see my favorite…the seals and sea lions.

The next few days were endless cafés, trying out the coffee and tea all over the city. We went to Balboa Park, the art museum in La Jolla, and Loma point. We saw a boat parade down at the waterfront. Sadly, G had to head back out to see, where she would spend Christmas.

My oldest daughter’s partner was able to join us for the last five days of our 11 day trip. It was so wonderful to be with both couples. Lots of games, lots of coffee.

It was so special to be home with my family and to have so much quality and quantity time together.
