Back Home

It’s always tough coming back from a getaway, but also nice to be back in your own bed and your own space. I slept in a little bit on Sunday and took it easy in the morning before going out to do some errands and grocery shop. I also did a lot of cooking and food prep for the week.

I went over to Yuri‘s later in the day for a walk and brought this fun idea I had seen on Instagram with me. We drew vases on cardboard and punched holes and then collected flowers along our way. I made one for me and one for Eunine. I brought dinner from Boma, mince over rice, and we sat and ate and watched a fantastic movie, Arrival.

Yuri loves games, so we played a balloon game that we were both pretty terrible at, then blindfolded hike and seek, which he was good at and I was not. It was also his territory, so he definitely had the advantage. Anyway, the next day I had this shiner going from something I bumped into!

Back home, I was organizationally ready for work the next day, if not mentally! But it’s been a great week and it was so good to be back with the kids.

On Thursday, our team drove over to our colleague, Avishkar’s house and brought his wife flowers and lots and lots of books for the new baby and big sister. I held the baby in my arms for over half an hour, and it was pure bliss watching all the expressions cross her face. My biceps were so sore that when I worked out later that night, I skipped them!

This little guy was on the ceiling above my kitchen table one night and the next night he was up on my bedroom wall. This evening, I saw him in the stairwell. I guess we are living together now.

Today was my first day of training for Adaptive Schools down at our Johannesburg campus. It is great professional development and useful for both personal and professional life. Unfortunately, I have another full training tomorrow, taking up one of my weekend days, but it really is good and there were a lot of people there I didn’t know, so it was a great opportunity to hear some more stories. The last two days of the training will be in May.

I had the best gin and tonic ever at my friend Ellen’s house at the dam. I ordered from a company in Johannesburg Wednesday night, and it arrived the very next day! I’m excited to create some mixed drinks using the various gins. My favorite is the one that looks like a bottle of conditioner.
