Next stop was the monkey sanctuary, located on the same grounds as the elephants. Many of these monkeys had previously been pets.
You walk freely through the forest and several of us held big bowls of food. Just seconds after the guide handed me my bowl, a monkey hopped onto me, climbed up me and chose something from my bowl! A little later, one jumped down from a tree onto me and ate from my bowl.
The guide was funny and warned about how naughty the monkeys could be. I took off my Yankees cap so that it wouldn’t be stolen!
The grounds were beautiful, and the monkeys and lemurs had such a good time overhead of us! It was fun to see all of the little babies. There were also duikers walking around on the ground to the left and right and beneath our pathway.
It was so interesting to see the many different personalities amongst the monkeys and how amazing their balance is. I loved when they would grab food in both hands and walk on just their hind legs down the rail! They also use tools to break apart the food.
