Little Boy

What are you thinking, Little Boy?
What thoughts go through your mind?
Are you dreaming up some mischief
Or a prank to mastermind?

What are you thinking, Little Boy?
Are you dreaming in your head?
Do you see the possibilities,
The promise that lies ahead?

Are you imagining a trip to space,
To explore the Universe so vast?
Or is your bent to know the seas,
Set sail and raise your mast?

What are you thinking, Little Boy?
Are you hungry and afraid?
Are you living day to day,
With scarcity and decay?

What are you thinking, Little Boy?
Can you tell me how you feel?
Is that hope or hurt or wonderment,
Are you trying to conceal?

What are you thinking, Little Boy?
I can't stop looking at your face.
I want to know your story,
I want to give you space

To say the things you want to say,
To ask the questions, too,
To step into your fullest light,
And let the world know you!

    1. It was so striking! A huge mural painted on the side of a building. The closer you got, you could see all the little dots that constituted it.

  2. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone would treat children this way? If we looked at them with wonder and understood they have big feelings and big questions. What if we honored that as wisdom? What a different world we would have.
