Just finished reading the novel by this name,
Written by debut author, Shelby Van Pelt,
About a Giant Pacific Octopus named Marcellus,
Who is a remarkably bright creature,
Observing everything in his surroundings,
And making connections that only the insightful could,
While feeling boredom and discontent in captivity in an aquarium.
Marcellus notes that some humans can be remarkably bright creatures, too,
But maybe only the ones who can be quiet,
Humble,
Curious, but not nosey,
Not necessarily highly educated,
Or even with their lives "together."
Remarkably bright creatures-
What a title, what a concept!
I may never be one of these,
But I'm grateful for the ones in my life,
Who can see what yearns to be seen,
Hear what clamors to be heard,
Say what needs to be said,
Connect what's there to be connected,
With compassion and softness,
With kindness and empathy,
With love and light.
Remarkably bright creatures.
Life preservers in what can be a tumultuous sea.
