It's perfectly fine
to be momentarily lost and drifting,
a lot of great discoveries are sometimes due to
predestined stumbles.
It is one of life's unexpected but
BEAUTIFUL TWISTS
on how to discover your true self.
~Dodinsky
I have always loved a plan,
setting goals for the month, year, future,
and working toward them,
to feel safe and comfortable.
I have always loved control,
doing my best to influence outcomes,
so that everyone, including me,
feels safe and comfortable.
I have always loved preparation,
so that I can be ready and equipped
for adventure, travel, and events,
to feel safe and comfortable.
You see where this is going, right?
Staying safe and comfortable,
to protect myself, feel secure.
But you saw this before I did -
the limits that safe and comfortable
place on the element of surprise, spontaneity,
serendipity.
How much better,
more enjoyable, more enriching,
more serendipitous,
were the times
when I made room
for the unexpected,
the unknown, the opportunities!
I met people I wouldn't have,
saw things I couldn't have,
tried things I shouldn't have,
I had experiences
that were unplanned, unscheduled,
and it was exhilarating!!
Each day this month, I am reading and writing about an entry from gentle reminders: SIMPLE TRUTHS FOR A MEANINGFUL LIFE by Dodinsky. This book was given to me after my divorce by a friend, with this inscription: "Let your soul sparkle."
