The Journey Inward

Yet another poem I wrote following the recipe structure during my 4th Grade Poetry Club time.  

Take 1 cup of unconditional love,
     the way you always greeted me like you were throwing me a surprise party,
     complete with wagging tail and dancing front paws.
Take 2 dollops of devotion,
     the way you followed me everywhere, like we were conjoined twins.
Take 3 pinches of affection,
     the way you always nudged my hand so I'd massage your ears, 
     your very favorite thing.
Stir and marinate,
     the way your sweet labby self taught me to love with my whole heart,
     ask for what I need,
     be a good friend-
     you were the gentlest spirit I've ever known.
