Beach Weekend With the Girls

Beach with the girls,
These friends oh so dear,
From north and from south,
We meet up each year.

We talk and we walk,
And have much to eat,
We play lots of games,
This squad can't be beat!

On our third year,
Of this time by the sea,
We love it so much,
It fills us with glee!

Back at the start of COVID, I invited three of my close friends to each ask a friend to join an online group that would meet once a week. Looking to keep connection at a time when we were all losing it, I thought of a Podcast Club instead of a Book Club so that we could meet more frequently than having to read a whole book would allow. We each take turns choosing a podcast of interest and then discuss it online. Our northernmost member is from the Boston area and our southernmost is from Western Virginia. We range in age from 52 to 65, all women.

This past weekend, we played the funniest game called Poetry for Neanderthals. You had to give clues to your team in all single syllable words about the words on your card. Having to speak that way makes you sound like a "Neanderthal." We laughed so hard our stomachs hurt through our many rounds. As you might have noticed, my poem was quite simple and all composed of single syllable words.

    1. Thank you! I had never heard of it before, but we really had a good time with it! It was amazing how challenging it was and how many times we got dinged for a multisyllabic word!
