Mother’s Day

I celebrated Mother's Day as I always do,
so grateful to have a mother and be a mother.
It's been two and half years since I've lost mine,
but today as I took my evening walk,
I smelled her.
I inhaled her scent so deeply into my lungs,
and said hello.
I told her some news and how I was doing,
and told her I missed her.
I am grateful for a woman,
who I was not always emotionally close to,
but always physically close to,
and who I've come to love and understand
and have so much compassion for.
We get closer every day.

I am grateful for each of my girls,
whom I adore and cherish and am inspired by.
Last weekend, my son-in-law spoiled me
on behalf of himself and my middle daughter,
who was out at sea.
He is such an amazing addition to our family,
as is his family.
My morning this morning
began with a Facetime from my oldest
and her sleeping fiance,
an orthopedic resident
who finally has a weekend off.
We talked tennis and crafts and farmers markets
and I fell in love with her all over again.
My middle daughter's boat docked
long enough for she and her shipmates
to call their moms.
It was wonderful to hear her voice,
and the lightness and pep in it.
My youngest was here all weekend
and we spent a glorious day
at Longwood Gardens yesterday,
had brunch and coffee out today
and crafts on the front porch.

I am so grateful for the interwoven connection
of the women in my family
as we all reached out by family text chain
to honor and recognize the moms amongst us
some biological, some of the heart,
some to dogs and some to nieces and nephews.
We are strong and fierce and loyal and wonderful!

Happy Mother's Day to all who see themselves as such!
May you feel much love today!
