The Journey Inward

I have several good friends at work,
Two who I knew before I began working at this school,
and each year we wrack our brains
and up the creativity ante
to buy each other the perfect,
most "so you" gift we can come up with
for each other's birthdays.

We're almost always successful,
but it can be stressful,
and we're often late in our giving.
Flowers are often the default.
So this year we decided 
to blow the practice up
and go out for a birthday beer
to celebrate the two April gals.

We'll catch the winter and summer
ladies as we move forward,
because this tradition is solid!
As the song goes,
when the working day is done, oh
girls just wanna have fun!

We had 4 hours of birthday bliss,
8 beers between us,
2 slices of pizza each,
1 ooh at a baby dancing to the band,
2 aahs at dogs at other tables,
6 looks at iPhone pictures,
83 stories about our children,
our students, our families, our hobbies,
and 1 amazing night
despite 1 miserable rainstorm (who noticed?)

Birthday Beers are a thing now!
