Moody Sky

The cemetery is one of my favorite destinations,
walking in the quiet, noticing the variety of headstones,
finding the oldest date, reading the occasional story.
There is a place at the top of the hill where I like to pause,
and look down over the town,
and out over the hills and beyond.

On this particular evening, it was overcast,
and getting toward sunset,
when I reached the crest of the hill.
As I looked out, the sky caught and held my attention,
and the word moody came to me to describe it.
The word seemed perfect and I was pleased.
I whispered it as I continued on.

When I got home, I texted a friend to share my word,
and he being a word person, was equally delighted.
It conjured images and time periods and situations,
and we both enjoyed mulling it over and sharing our thoughts.

Words bring me so much pleasure,
and when others see their power and precision, too,
it makes me feel soft.

  2. That is a beautiful photo of the moody sky. I love walking in cemeteries. When I helped with tracing our family genealogy I walked many of them and took photos of headstones.
