The day began with my youngest pulling into port in San Diego! It was exhilarating to see her boat and crew at work! My heart was full seeing her on the bow in uniform, and I felt so proud. A walk along the pier, then back home for a stroll to my middle’s favorite bakery completed the morning.

After lunch, we set off for La Jolla to see the sea lions and seals. Some were so entertaining and playful in the surf and wrestling, but many were sound asleep in the sun, on sand and rocks. We were able to get quite close to them. Some people swam or kayaked with them. The walk along the cliffs provided beautiful views of the ocean and surrounding towns. The huge marine animals reminded me of the importance of community, play, joy and rest.
It was my daughter and son in law’s first anniversary, so they went for a picnic at the park while my youngest and I walked the beach until we found a taco joint with gigantic margaritas and a breathtaking view of the water. We stopped and sat on the beach to watch another brilliant sunset.
