Portland and Vancouver, Day 17

My last full day in the Pacific Northwest. I’m ready for more adventure, but want to pump the brakes! I’m not ready to leave the kids, the beauty, the travel and return to reality. But this is the longest trip I’ve ever taken and I’m so grateful!

Portland was up first, nearly a two hour drive. The city was easy to navigate and the architecture was diverse and interesting. I loved the murals.
The gardens were my favorite, as were the forest paths. Such lush green in the midst of a city! The view of Mt. Hood was surprising and impressive!
We logged a lot of miles walking through the city, probably 8, but seeing a place on foot allows me to linger, to photograph, to research on the run. Travel ignites curiosity for me!
We went across to Vancouver, WA on a whim. We were looking for a pretty waterfront, and a quick search showed that this was it. Google was not wrong! It was much hotter inland than it had been on the coast, about 98°, so being near water brought the breeze we were lacking.
Finding a place for sunset every night has been such fun! My daughter asked me if I was a sunset chaser at home. I’m not. It has taken me travel on the coast to make me seek it, but also make me realize that I need to enjoy more at home.
This was our joke! Leaving Vancouver and heading back to our hotel in Portland, we made a wrong turn and got in the lane for Hayden Island. With no way out, we crossed the bridge onto the island and crossed back again. We saw Target, a TJ Maxx, and a car wash, so I don’t know that we can legitimately say we spend time there!

Tonight was organizing my things and packing for my return trip. It was a little bit of my head spinning. It was an aching heart. And it was a mind full of memories.

  1. lol, I made the usual mistake. when I lived in Vancouver I would travel a lot to Seattle and to the San Juan Isands. When I said I was from Vancouver, the assumption was made that I meant that Vancouver……both are beautiful areas…and I miss both

    1. When my daughter suggested Vancouver, I thought she was geographically challenged! As usual, she was spot on!

    1. Thank you for following along! I’m not going to say it was a once in a lifetime trip, but it was very significant!

      1. That’s excellent, and it really serves as motivation for me, at least, to take a trip like that, maybe when my wife retires in a few years.
