I was quite sick this week. It was actually building for a few weeks, but on Sunday, I really went downhill. I am never plagued by headaches or stomachaches, but recently I’d been having both. My gut was totally off and despite drinking water and eating constantly, I couldn’t keep anything down or in. I lost a pants size in 10 days and was very dehydrated. On Monday morning, while talking to a colleague, I nearly passed out and had to sit on the ground with my head between my legs. Each day saw me with less energy, more fatigue and aches and pains. By Wednesday, I couldn’t stand up to teach.
I finally asked some international teachers for doctor recommendations that night and was able to get an appointment last night. Walking up the two flights of stairs to the office made my leg muscles scream!
The doctor was wonderful and although he performed no blood tests or any other tests, he felt comfortable prescribing me some meds for the cramps and nausea. He also gave me a three day does of antibiotics just in case. Apparently traveler’s stomach is very common when moving to a new country and the internationals all assured me they had suffered the same way upon arrival here.
I am not one to rest, but I spent Storm Sunday on the couch and each evening this week I had no choice but to come home and lay down until shower and bedtime. I simply couldn’t move.
The change after taking the meds was drastic. I woke up feeling almost 100% today and had my trademark energy back! I was excited to work with the kids and had endless patience and my sense of humor back. When I saw how good I felt, I couldn’t imagine why or how I’d made it to work the last few days!
All meals have stayed put inside me and I even took my two mile lunch walk today, plus did an at home weight workout tonight. I know I probably should have eased in a bit, but I’m so grateful and excited to feel myself again.
Happy to be feeling healthy again!!
