Dinokeng Game Reserve is located just 45 minutes from my house. Walter and I set out one Saturday morning in his massive truck to do a self drive. We arrived by 7:30 and stayed until 5:30. It was the first time I had seen a jackal and a Nyala.
The big hit that day was the giraffes. We parked for such a long time watching the antics of two young males. They were absolutely hysterical and it was unbelievable how they stayed in lock step with one another.
We also had a cheetah walk right beside us. It almost felt surreal.
The park was overgrown, which managed to keep the elephants from sight all day! It’s not easy to play hide and seek with an elephant and lose! The main roads were navigable, but the 4 x 4 roads were extremely bumpy!
